Oil transportation from Russia to China by the Transsiberian Railway reached its record level, an official at the administration of the East-Siberian Railway, which is a subsidiary of the Russia's Railways company, told Itar-Tass on Friday.

In August, the oil transportation totaled 1.3 million tonnes for the first time, which is twice bigger than in the same month of last year.

All in all, the oil transportation to China has reached 6.7 million tonnes since the year beginning, the official said.

The largest amount of oil, or 5.5 million tonnes, were exported to China via the border passage of Zabaikalsk-Manchuria, where Rosneft is a freighter company.

The increase amounted to 64.7 percent versus the same period of last year. However, the oil transportation via the Naushki railway station at the Russian-Mongolian border, where Yukos is an exporter company, reduced by 29.3 percent to 1.2 million tonnes.

The East-Siberian Railway administration expected that about 12 million tonnes of hydrocarbons will be exported to China by the yearend, as compared to 7.4 million tonnes in 2005.

With this in mind, modernization of the Transsiberian Railway, especially the stations of Sukhovskaya, Naushki and a part of the station of Karymskaya-Zabaikalsk, is underway.
